〈Coming of Age Day in Japan〉

In January every year, there is a very important holiday called Coming of Age Day (seijin no hi) throughout Japan. In this article I explain about the upcoming holiday called “seijin no hi”.
Many countries have a special day or a certain age that represents the change from an adolescent to an adult. In a lot of countries this is usually when you turn 18 or 21 years old and are finally able to do things like buy alcohol or vote. In Japan, Coming of Age Day is held on the second Monday in January every year to celebrate and congratulate those who will turn 20 between April 2nd of the previous year and April 1st of the current year. This important day represents the day that they officially become adults within Japanese society. Once they turn 20 they are able to smoke, drink, and gamble legally! Voting rights used to come with turning 20 as well, but the voting age was changed to 18 in 2015.
It is so rare to see that so many people are wearing kimono(furisode) on the street! If you’re ever in Japan on the second week of January or looking for more ways to immerse in Japanese culture, add Seijin Shiki to your list as this is one holiday worth witnessing.

毎年1月には、日本全国で成人の日と呼ばれる非常に重要な祝日があります。 この記事では、成人の日について説明します。
多くの国には、青年から成人への変化を表す特別な日や特定の年齢があります。 多くの国では、通常、18 歳か 21 歳になり、アルコールの購入や投票などのことができるようになったときです。 日本では、毎年1月の第2月曜日に、前年の4月2日から今年の4月1日までの間に20歳になる人を祝うために、成人の日が開催されます。 この重要な日は、彼らが日本社会で正式に大人になる日を表しています。 20 歳になると、合法的に喫煙、飲酒、パチンコ（ギャンブル）ができるようになります。 日本での選挙権は、20歳からとされていましたが、2015年に選挙権年齢が18歳に変更されました。
