[ Mother’s day is coming!!! ]
Mother’s day this year is on Sunday, May 14th. Mother’s Day is known all over the world, but do you know how it started? This time, I will introduce the origin of Mother’s Day and ideas for presents!
There are various theories about its origin, but one of the most well-known is about 100 years ago, in the state of West Virginia, a woman named Anna Jarvis visited Philadelphia on May 10, 1908 to mourn her late mother and she handed out white carnations at a church.
In 1910, the governor of West Virginia declared the second Sunday in May to be Mother’s Day, and eventually it spread throughout the United States, and in 1914, the second Sunday in May became “Mother’s Day.” By the way, the first Mother’s Day event in Japan was held around the end of the Meiji era, and in 1915 (Taisho 4), celebration events began to be held at churches, and gradually spread to the private sector.
Mother’s Day has been established as a day to give carnations, but it is also a day to express gratitude to your mother. In other words, anything that makes your mother happy is fine at least putting your deep love in the presents!

今年2023年の母の日は、5月14日（日）です。
母の日は世界で知られているイベントですが、どのように始まったかご存知ですか？
今回は、母の日の起源と、プレゼント例を紹介します！
その起源には諸説ありますが、よく知られているのは「100年ほど前のアメリカ・ウェストヴァージニア州で、アンナ・ジャービスという女性が亡き母を追悼するため、1908年5月10日にフィラデルフィアの教会で白いカーネーションを配ったのが始まり」という話です。
この風習は1910年、ウェストヴァージニア州の知事が5月第2日曜日を母の日にすると宣言し、やがてアメリカ全土に広まっていき、1914年には5月の第2日曜日が「母の日」と制定されました。ちなみに、日本で初めて母の日のイベントが行われたのは明治末期頃で、1915年（大正4年）には教会でお祝いの行事が催されるようになり、徐々に民間に広まっていったと伝えられています。
母の日は、長い歴史の中でカーネーションを贈る日と定着していますが、日頃の母の苦労をいたわり母へ感謝を表す日でもあります。つまり、気持ちがこもっているものであれば何でも嬉しいものなのです。
