Do you know Danjiri Festival? The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival began in the middle of the Edo period and boasts a history and tradition of over 300 years.
It has been handed down unbroken by the hands of people born and raised in this land and has been nurtured to this day.
・The beginning
The Kishiwada Danjiri Festival, which boasts a history and tradition of about 300 years, was held in 1703 when the then lord of the Kishiwada domain, Okabe Nagayasu, invited Kyoto’s Fushimi Inari to be built in Sannomaru within the castle grounds. It is said that it began with the Inari Festival, which was held to pray for a good harvest of five grains such as rice, wheat, beans, millet and millet.
At first, the festival consisted of performing arts such as “Niwaka” and Kyogen, followed by a visit to Sannomaru Shrine and Kishiki Shrine.

In the past, it was a festival to pray for a large harvest of grain, but now the structure and state of society have changed. The once-a-year festival, which began as a time to wish and celebrate the harvest together, has changed over time, and even as society changes, the spirit that connects the “community” that flows at the root of people’s feelings has always remained connected. 皆さんは、だんじり祭りを知っていますか？江戸時代中期に始まり、300年以上の歴史と伝統を誇る岸和田だんじり祭は、この地で生まれ育った人々の手により連綿と受け継がれ、今日まで育まれてきました。
・はじまり
約300年の歴史と伝統を誇る「岸和田だんじり祭」は、元禄16年（1703年）、時の岸和田藩主岡部長泰（おかべながやす）公が、京都伏見稲荷を城内三の丸に勧請し、米や麦、豆、あわやひえなどの5つの穀物がたくさん取れるように（五穀豊穣）祈願し、行った稲荷祭がその始まりと伝えられています。
当初の祭礼は、｢にわか｣や狂言などの芸事を演じ、その後に三の丸神社、岸城神社へ参拝したようである。
・歴史は流れ…
昔は、穀物がたくさん取れるよう祈願したお祭りでしたが、今は社会の構造も様子も変わってきました。収穫をともに願い、祝うといったことからはじまった一年に一度の祭りは時代がかわり、社会が変わる中にあっても、人々の気持ちの根本に流れる「地域」を結びつける精神は、ずっと、つながってきています。
