Kamiza and Shimoza refer to the sitting position (seat) and the standing position. It is a manifestation of respect for age and position, such as “customer/employee”, “boss/subordinate”, “senior/junior”. What if rank, position, and age were ignored? You may feel that unconfortable.

The conditions for kamiza in a taxi are:

【上座・下座を知っていますか？】
上座（かみざ）・下座（しもざ）という言葉は聞いたことがありますか？目上の人やお客様が座る席を上座、目下の人や接待する側が座る席を下座といいます。 上座の方がより安全で心地良い席です。応接室などの部屋の他にも、車、エレベーターにも上座・下座があります。どこが上座か、基本となる条件を覚えていきましょう。
○上座・下座が大切なワケ
上座・下座という言葉は、馴染みが薄く、ピンと来ない方も多いのではないでしょうか。しかし、実は上座・下座はとても重要なマナーで、これを間違えたり、怠ると、お客様を大いに怒らせてしまうことにもなるのです。
上座・下座は座る位置（席）、立つ位置です。「お客様・社員」「上司・部下」「先輩・後輩」というように、役職や年齢、立場に対しての敬意の現れです。地位・役職・年齢が無視されたらどうでしょうか。自分の存在そのものを否定された、無視された、ぞんざいに扱われたという気持ちになります。
位置や順番に対する日本人の感覚は、実はたいへん敏感です。
○応接室での上座
応接室での上座の条件は、
・入り口から遠い・ソファと肘掛椅子の場合はソファが上座
・絵が掛かっている場合は、絵を正面から見ることの出来る位置
①が一番の上座（上席）、
②、③、④という順になります。
○タクシーの上座
タクシーの上座の条件は、
・安全性（運転席の後ろが一番安全）・乗り心地
です。
タクシーでの上座は、①→②→③→④となります。
理由は、運転席の後ろが一番安全なので①が一番の上座です。
