Taxi stands may be set up at stations, airports, hotels, and tourist facilities.
●Stop a running taxi
You can stop a running taxi and board. Raise your hand from the pavement to signal a taxi. However, avoid dangerous places such as near intersections and crosswalks.
If the electronic signboard on the passenger side of the taxi shows “empty” or “warimashi”, you can get on. You cannot take a taxi with any other characters displayed.
If the company name indicator light called “Andon” on the taxi car is lit, you can get in, so it is better to judge at night.
● Call a taxi
Call the taxi company closest to your current location or use a taxi-booking app to book a taxi. Currently, the most famous taxi-booking apps in Japan are “DiDi” and “GO”. Please note that each taxi-booking app has different service areas and available payment methods. Both may incur a pick-up fee.
●Reserve in advance
If you know your schedule in advance, you can also make a reservation. Call the taxi company or book online. In general, reservations are not accepted last minute, so please make a reservation early. There may also be a pick-up fee.

●駅などにあるタクシー乗り場を利用する
駅や空港、ホテルや観光施設などには、タクシー乗り場が設置されている場合があります。
●走っているタクシーを止める
走っているタクシーを止めて乗車することができます。歩道から手を挙げてタクシーに合図しましょう。ただし、交差点の近くや横断歩道など、危険な場所は避けましょう。
タクシーの助手席側の電光掲示板に「空車」もしくは「割増」と表示されていれば乗ることができます。それ以外の文字が表示されているタクシーには乗れません。
タクシーの車の上についている「行燈（あんどん）」と呼ばれる社名表示灯が点灯していれば、乗ることができるので、夜はそちらで判断するとよいでしょう。
●タクシーを呼ぶ
現在地の最寄のタクシー会社に電話するか、タクシー配車アプリを使ってタクシーを呼びましょう。現在日本で最も有名なタクシー配車アプリは、「DiDi」と「GO」です。タクシー配車アプリはアプリごとにサービスエリアと利用可能な支払方法が異なるので注意が必要です。ともに迎車料金が発生する可能性があります。
