【Things that foreigners find inconvenient in Japan】
The estimated number of foreign visitors to Japan in April 2023 announced by the Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) has recovered to 1,949,100, 66.6% compared to the same month in 2019 before the coronavirus outbreak. In October last year (2022), border measures were eased and the request reached a new high.
Against this backdrop, from May 9th to May 15th, Gakken Holdings’ group company Chikyu no Arukikata announced that it will be hosting 10 overseas residents who are users of GOOD LUCK TRIP, a travel information site for foreign visitors to Japan operated by the company. A survey was conducted 891 men and women from their teens to their 60s and over about what they encountered during their visit to Japan.
1st place “Wi-Fi environment” (31.5%).
2nd place ”Unable to communicate with facility staff” (20.2%)
3rd place “Lack of multilingual display/difficult to understand” (17.5%)
4th place “Using public transportation”
5th place ”Lack of trash bin”
Among the top rankings, there were notable differences in language.
The company explained that the results of this survey revealed that although progress has been made in improving the environment for accepting foreign tourists, there are still some areas that are inadequate. He pointed out the need to reconsider the development of infrastructure such as the Wi-Fi environment and the dissemination of multilingual information tailored to the people visiting Japan.
