【Household Electricity Bills to Rise by 14-42% from June / 7 Companies Including TEPCO】
On May 16, the government held a “ministerial meeting on price issues” and approved an assessment policy to determine the amount of price hikes for households electric bill that seven major electric power companies had applied for. The price hike is expected to begin on June 1, with a range of 14% to 42% for a typical household electricity bill.
Seven companies, including Tokyo Electric Power Company Holdings, had applied for price increases to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, citing rising prices for liquefied natural gas (LNG), the fuel used for thermal power generation. Five electric power companies in Tohoku, Chugoku, Shikoku, Hokuriku, and Okinawa requested revisions from April, while TEPCO and Hokkaido Electric Power Co. requested revisions from June.
The price increases are regulated tariffs for households and will be implemented after approval by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. According to the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry on the 16th, the rate of increase in electricity charges for standard households is 21% in Hokkaido, 24% in Tohoku, 14% in TEPCO, 42% in Hokuriku, 29% in Chugoku, 25% in Shikoku, and 25% in Shikoku. Okinawa will be 38%. Hokuriku has the largest price increase, while TEPCO has the smallest.

【家庭の電気代値上げ、6月から14~42% 東電など7社 】
政府は16日、「物価問題に関する関係閣僚会議」を開き、電力大手7社が申請していた家庭向け電気料金の値上げ幅を確定する査定方針を了承した。値上げは6月1日からとなる見通しで、標準的な家庭の電気料金の値上げ幅は14〜42%になる。
火力発電に使う燃料の液化天然ガス（LNG）価格の上昇を理由に、東京電力ホールディングスなど7社が経済産業省に値上げを申請していた。東北、中国、四国、北陸、沖縄の電力5社が4月から、東電と北海道電力が6月からの改定を求めていた。
値上げするのは家庭向けの規制料金で、経産相の認可を経て実施される。経産省が16日に示した標準的な家庭における電気料金の値上げ率は北海道が21%、東北が24%、東電が14%、北陸が42%、中国が29%、四国が25%、沖縄が38%となる。値上げ幅は北陸が最大で、東電が最小になった。
