【Japan gasoline 185.6 yen, highest price in 15 years】
The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced on the 30th that the national average price for 1 liter of regular gasoline was 185.6 yen. It surpassed the August 2008 level of 185.1 yen, reaching a record high for the first time in 15 years. Prices have risen for 15 consecutive weeks since mid-May, and the government and ruling parties are considering expanding subsidies to keep prices down.
The rise in gasoline prices is largely due to the government’s gradual reduction of subsidies, as well as the rise in crude oil prices and the weaker yen.
In January last year, the government began subsidizing the soaring global energy prices, but it has been scaled back this year as crude oil prices have stabilized. The upper limit has been lowered in stages since January, and the subsidy rate has been lowered in stages since June.

【日本ガソリン185.6円、15年ぶり最高値更新】
経済産業省は30日、レギュラーガソリン1リットルあたりの全国平均価格が、185・6円になったと発表した。2008年8月の185・1円を上回り、15年ぶりに過去最高値を更新した。5月中旬から15週連続の値上がりで、政府・与党は価格を抑えるため補助金の拡充を検討している。
ガソリン価格の上昇は、政府が補助金を段階的に減らしていることに加え、原油価格の上昇と円安の影響が大きい。政府は昨年1月、世界的なエネルギー価格の高騰を受けて補助を始めたが、原油価格が落ち着いてきたことから今年に入って縮小。1月から上限額を、6月から補助率を段階的に下げている。
